Planting cauliflower. Not recommended for
inexperienced gardeners. In the North cauliflower is a spring and autumn
crop, as summer and winter present too severe weather. In the North it
is a fall, winter, and spring crop. A considerable amount of warm weather
is ruinous to cauliflower, causing failure to head.
Soil must be fertile and manure and commercial
fertilizer are essential. Be careful to get good seed. Set the plants
18 inches apart in rows 30 inches apart. One or two dozen heads of cauliflower
are sufficient for the average garden. Tie the leaves together when the
heads begin to form, in order to keep the heads white. |
